Jim called last night, and sounded much more like his old self.
He said he is feeling stronger and is starting to gain back some of the weight he lost.
He also told how fans had been calling and wishing him well; So many that it had begun to hinder his progress and he was forced to change his phone number.
He asked me to state that while he appreciates this, he needs to rest and regain his strength.
He is on the road to recovery, but wishes to have time to make his recovery complete.

December 26, 2013
I got a call from Jim, this evening.
Though he sounded weak, he was in good spirits and told me the doctors had said he was finally on the road to recovery.
Since he has been ill for so long, recovery will take some time and he has to regain his strength.
It will not be an overnight process and he has many months or recovery ahead of him . . but that sure beats the alternative.

I talked to Jim again, just after my birthday. Unfortunately he is not doing well.
Apparently, the doctor who treated him mis-located the radiation pellets and caused significant damage to several internal organs resulting in burning and even fusing of various internal organs. I won't go into the details, here, but this is causing numerous problems.
He is now undergoing Hyperbaric treatment in an attempt to remedy some of the resulting problems. I don't fully understand what this is intended to do, but it is similar to the treatment used on divers who suffer from Decompression Sickness (the Bends). (See
He is still very weak and in a great deal of pain from the radiation treatment.

Jim continues to be plagued by complications from his treatment. It seems they planted the radiation granules improperly and used too high a concentration. They perforated his bladder and have caused the tissue to thicken, not permitting it to expand.
Naturally this is causing many serious health issues which is in turn causing an infection that could be fatal.
On a more positive note, he has found a doctor who realized what the problem was and has suggested a treatment that may help relieve some of the many problems that have arisen.
I'll continue to report on his progress as more information becomes available.

Jim Called again and it was good news.
He seems to finally be recovering and says he feels better than he has for a couple of years. He's still weak and has some problems remaining, but feels he is finally on the road to recovery.
He said his friend, Blake Shelton, is trying to get him on the T.V. show, "The Voice". Jim?  Singing?  I guess it makes sense since he has been so involved in music and dance, most of his life. Blake also told him that he thinks he knows someone who might record the song "Tush Push". Maybe the song will finally be released.

After a few months with no word from Jim, I decided to check up on him. The news wasn't good.
The radiation treatment caused scarring and damage to his internal organs and he was still suffering greatly. I won't go into the details, but he is still having debilitating aftereffects from both the radiation and chemotherapy.
This has been a serious setback, further weakening him and causing constant fatigue. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

February 16, 2013
I finally called Jim. I had not heard from him in so long, I was beginning to really worry.
My call bought some really good news. Jim's cancer is completely gone. The radiation did the trick. Unfortunately, he has had other problems, such as a half dollar sized kidney stone. As soon as they get that fixed they will do the surgery to correct the damage and scarring of his previous cancer treatment.
Hopefully soon he will be on the road to full recovery.

Jim called to wish me a happy birthday. Actually, his wife Martie called because Jim had been doing so poorly and she knew we had not talked for some time and she wanted to give me an update on his progress, but hearing who she was talking to, Jim had to get on the phone.
He sounded very weak and complained of the problems associated with the radiation treatment. I won't go into the details, but it has led to some embarrassing accidents.
He is at a low point from the months of dealing with the exhaustion caused by the therapy and sounds very weak and tired. I reminded him that he did not get sick all at once and could not expect immediate recovery.
He is feeling very discouraged but has not given up his struggle.
Hopefully he will soon turn the corner and his recovery will be quicker, but at this time he needs all the encouragement he can get, as well as everyone's thoughts and prayers.

September 7, 2012
I apologize to the many who are keeping track of Jim's progress, for not getting this out earlier.
Martie called me last night and told me that Jim's surgery seemed to be a success and he was home, recovering. Notice that I did not say "resting comfortably" because she says he is not comfortable at all.
Everything went as planned and the doctors expect a complete recovery, though it will be months before he gets his strength back.
This has been a grueling experience for him, and she asks that well wishers hold your calls until he is again strong enough to respond safely. If you know Jim, then you know he will chat and be polite even if it kills him. In this case that might be literally true. I will post on here when he is able to accept calls.

August 22, 2012
Jim is still in good spirits despite the after effects of Chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
He is scheduled for additional surgery on September 6th when the doctors hope to remove the last remnants of his cancer.
Let us hope and pray he makes a full recovery.

June 26, 2012
The Doctors have added Chemotherapy to the list of Jim's woes.
Though they say it is necessary, it's side effects are causing him to lose his hair. Imagine Jim without his Mustache???
He's losing weight (which might be a good thing) but is getting weaker from the side effects of the treatment.
If you talk to him, don't ask why he's limping. I promised not to tell.

June 6, 2012
Jim had his first radiation treatment, today.
In spite of this he says he is feeling much better, after his experience with an allergic reaction to the antibiotics, which nearly took his life. He says he is feeling much stronger and is anticipating a full recovery.
He asked me to thank everyone for their support and prayers and hopes to be back teaching in a few months; perhaps by the new year.

May 28, 2012
Jim has had a serious setback. He experienced a reaction to the antibiotics that caused erratic heart rate and lowered his blood pressure to a critical level. He almost died and his system was rapidly shutting down.
According to his wife, Martie, they have resolved the problem and Jim is now resting and recovering his strength.
The radiation treatments are scheduled to begin Wednesday, 05/30/2012.

16 May, 2012
Jim hasn't yet started radiation treatment. They found a few more cancerous spots that needed treatment and delayed radiation till after they were removed.
According to his doctor, his chance of recovery is now 100% based on his response to the treatment. Much better than the 50% he was given when treatment began.
He asked me to thank everyone who has emailed or called.
Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Several months ago Jim Ferrazzano was diagnosed with cancer. shortly after, I began posting updates on his condition. I have changed the manner these are displayed, so they are continuous, and recent viewers can follow the progress of his recovery.
The last time Jim faced this battle was while he had dropped from sight for several years and was living in North Dakota.
This time he has the prayers and support of all his friends around the world.
